Lando Norris

Another twist shaped the 2025 Formula 1 championship as Lando Norris took the championship lead with victory in the Mexican Grand Prix, while McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri now trails him by just one point heading into the final four races. View our gallery below.

Norris took pole position and cruised to victory in Mexico while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took second place, holding off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. At the start of the race, Leclerc, Verstappen and the other Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton went three-wide into Turn 1, with Verstappen going wide and off the track.

The Dutchman briefly took the lead after that off-track excursion but handed it back to Norris. Verstappen then clashed with Hamilton later in the race. The Ferrari went off track and was deemed to have gained an advantage, resulting in a 10-second penalty that left Hamilton eighth at the chequered flag.

Haas’s Ollie Bearman was a surprise fourth having capitalised on the drama around him.

Aforementioned driver Piastri entered Mexico as championship leader but qualified seventh and finished fifth - leaving him one point behind Norris entering Brazil.

Mercedes duo Kimi Antonelli and George Russell finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Haas’s Esteban Ocon took ninth ahead of Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto.

Meanwhile, Racing Bulls’s Liam Lawson picked up damage on the opening lap and didn’t finish the race. Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber was next out of the race with a power unit issue, and then Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso retired with brake problems.

Williams’s Carlos Sainz picked up two pitlane speeding penalties and ended up stopping off track on lap 67 of 71 - ending his race prematurely and bringing out a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) that effectively neutralised the grand prix in its closing stages.
