Furthermore, various teams and suppliers offer graduate schemes and apprenticeship programmes, as well as collaborations with local universities.

Formula 1 Work Experience and Internships

Formula 1

Formula 1’s in-house engineering and design department at Biggin Hill is offering a 12-month industrial placement for students currently studying a design-based degree (such as Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Industrial Design). Apply via the Formula 1 Corporate Careers Hub.

McLaren

McLaren's NEXT programme returned for its second year in September 2026, once again supporting 25 exceptional women in STEM from the UK, US, and EU through a fully immersive week of mentoring, workshops, and industry sessions at the McLaren Technology Centre. Applications for the 2026 cohort closed in June, but the programme is expected to reopen for a new intake in 2027.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team

Aston Martin offers internships and placements across engineering, aerodynamics, and operations. Its undergraduate placement schemes usually open in September-October.

The Silverstone-based team works with Coventry University and Cranfield University to support students in securing placements.

Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team and its title partner, Aramco, have together delivered a number of programmes with the objective of fuelling the next generation with inspiration and skills in STEM subjects. Partnership successes so far include:

• Supporting the #Girlswill initiative, and supporting the Silverstone Museum's STEM Pitstop initiative around the United Kingdom in 2026
• Aramco students taking part in a chemical engineering hackathon hosted by University College London in April 2026
• Launched a competition to offer the next generation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professionals the chance to complete a series of challenges and compete for the chance to win a life-changing placement at the AMR Technology Campus at Silverstone, UK
• Jessica Hawkins becoming the first female to drive a modern ground-effect F1 car
• STEM activations inspiring students in KSA, China, and Spain
• Supporting careers in STEM and motorsport via a university undergraduate placement programme
• Winner of Aramco Esports Challenge joining the Aston Martin eSports racing team
• Partnered with AMF1 and the World Robotic Olympiad (WRO) to launch the Aramco Innovation Award, a new global initiative recognising excellence in robotics design and technology.

Atlassian Williams F1 Team

Williams Racing, now racing as the Atlassian Williams F1 Team, runs a highly sought-after one-week work experience programme over the summer across three intake weeks (June, July, and August), open to students in Year 10 to first-year university. Applications for the 2026 programme have closed, with the next cycle expected to open in early 2027.

The team has also launched the Komatsu Williams Engineering Academy, opening up its student engagement programme globally to first- and second-year Formula Student and FSAE participants worldwide, with a virtual application process expected to open in late 2026.

Mercedes-AMG F1 Team

Mercedes runs its Industrial Placement programme on an annual cycle from its Brackley base, with a short application window typically opening in September for the following year's cohort. Its 12-month placements are deeply immersive, requiring on-site presence 5 days a week to foster team collaboration.

Red Bull Racing

Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technology continue to run rolling Student Placement intakes across their Milton Keynes campus, with new vacancies for the 2027/28 cohort opening through autumn 2026. Red Bull also offers numerous apprenticeship opportunities across technical departments, and the team partners with Oxford Brookes University for placement years and with Cranfield University for postgraduate aerodynamics projects.

Racing Bulls (VCARB)

Applications for Racing Bulls' 2027/28 Undergraduate Internship Programme are now open, closing on 4 October 2026. The 13-month placement starts in July 2027 at the team's Milton Keynes campus, with UK visa sponsorship available. The team (based in Faenza, Italy, and Milton Keynes, UK) has close ties with Loughborough University and Brunel University.

Ferrari

Ferrari continues to offer internships across its F1 team and road car development, open to recent Masters graduates, current Masters students eligible for internship, or final-year students in a relevant degree. The Scuderia also collaborates with universities through its Maranello Academy, working with Politecnico di Milano and University of Bologna.

Cadillac F1 Team & General Motors

Having completed its debut season on the grid in 2026, Cadillac now runs a regular pipeline of graduate roles from its new Silverstone facility, spanning race strategy, structural analysis, aerodynamics, and design engineering. GM Performance Power Units develops and builds the hybrid power units for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team and continues to offer student co-ops and one-year placements.

Now racing under the TGR Haas F1 Team name following its title partnership with Toyota Gazoo Racing, the team regularly posts internships and apprenticeships to its careers portal.

Audi Revolut F1 Team

Having entered its debut season in F1 in 2026, the Audi Revolut F1 Team (formerly Sauber) operates across chassis development in Hinwil, Switzerland, power unit development in Neuburg an der Donau, Germany, and a growing technology centre in Bicester, UK. Internship programmes are expected to expand across these sites as the team's operations mature.

British Touring Car Championship (BTCC)

British Touring Car Championship teams do not publicly advertise work experience programmes, but squads such as Un-Limited Motorsport and Team Dynamics have been known to offer placements to those who reach out proactively.

IndyCar and IMSA

IndyCar and IMSA sportscar racing teams in the United States often rely on direct outreach to recruit interns and offer work experience placements.

• Purdue University works with IndyCar teams to provide engineering students with placements.
• North Carolina State University has a motorsport programme connected to IMSA teams such as Wayne Taylor Racing.

Honda Racing UK

Honda Racing UK offers placements from three to 12 months for students pursuing relevant engineering degrees, providing hands-on experience in engine development and racing operations.

The team partners with Loughborough University and the University of Warwick.
