Motorsport is a wide-ranging and varied industry and numerous teams from Formula 1 to sportscar racing offer work experience and internship programmes for aspiring students and graduates seeking to get onto the career ladder.

Major F1 teams, including McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari, offer extensive programmes within various departments - whether engineering, technical, and commercial.

However, our extensive list of motorsport work experience and internship programmes goes beyond F1.

Furthermore, various teams and suppliers offer graduate schemes and apprenticeship programmes, as well as collaborations with local universities.

Here’s our list of the latest motorsport career programmes, updated regularly in 2026.

Formula 1 Work Experience and Internships

Formula 1

Formula 1’s in-house engineering and design department at Biggin Hill is offering a 12-month industrial placement for students currently studying a design-based degree (such as Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Industrial Design). Apply here.

McLaren

McLaren's NEXT programme is designed to support 25 exceptional women in STEM from the UK, US, and EU as they explore future careers in motorsport and related industries.

Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team

Aston Martin offers internships and placements across engineering, aerodynamics, and operations. Its undergraduate placement schemes usually open in September-October.

The Silverstone-based team works with Coventry University and Cranfield University to support students in securing placements.

Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team and its title partner, Aramco, have together delivered a number of programmes with the objective of fuelling the next generation with inspiration and skills in STEM subjects. Partnership success so far include:

  • Supporting the #Girlswill initiative, and supporting the Silverstone Museum's STEM Pitstop initiative around the United Kingdom in 2026
  • Aramco students taking part in a chemical engineering hackathon hosted by University College London in April 2026
  • Launched a competition to offer the next generation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professionals the chance to complete a series of challenges and compete for the chance to win a life-changing placement at the AMR Technology Campus at Silverstone, UK
  • Jessica Hawkins becoming the first female to drive a modern ground-effect F1 car
  • STEM activations inspiring students in KSA, China and Spain
  • Supporting careers in STEM and motorsport via a university undergraduate placement programme
  • Winner of Aramco Esports Challenge joining the Aston Martin eSports racing team
  • Partnered with AMF1 and the World Robotic Olympiad (WRO) to launch the Aramco Innovation Award, a new global initiative recognising excellence in robotics design and technology.

Williams Racing

The Atlassian Williams F1 Team runs a highly sought-after one-week work experience programme over the summer across three intake weeks (June, July, and August).  Apply here.

Mercedes-AMG F1 Team

Mercedes has wrapped up its hiring for the 2026 Industrial Placement (IP) intake, but the team is already looking ahead. Its 12-month placements are deeply immersive, requiring on-site presence 5 days a week to foster team collaboration.

Red Bull Racing

Applications for 2026/27 Student Placements are now open. Red Bull also offers numerous apprenticeship opportunities across technical departments. The team partners with Oxford Brookes University for placement years and with Cranfield University for postgraduate aerodynamics projects. See more here.

Red Bull has recently launched its graduate programme across various fields including IT, data and analytics and media. The program will be held in Austria, Japan, the United States and Australia. For more information find out here.

Racing Bulls

Racing Bulls regularly offers 13-month apprenticeships to students studying a STEM subject. Applications for 2027/28 are set to open in October 2026. The team (based in Faenza, Italy, and Milton Keynes, UK) has close ties with Loughborough University and Brunel University. See the Racing Bulls careers hub.

Ferrari

Ferrari is currently offering various internships across its F1 team and road car development, open to recent Masters graduates, current Masters students eligible for internship, or final-year students in a relevant degree. The Scuderia also collaborates with universities through its Maranello Academy, working with Politecnico di Milano and University of Bologna. Cadillac F1 Team

Entering its first year in Formula 1, Cadillac is now offering some graduate roles. More information can be found here.

GM Performance Power Units develops and builds official hybrid power units for the Cadillac Formula 1 Team and is also offering student co-ops and one year placements.

Haas F1 Team

Haas regularly post internships and apprenticeships to its careers portal, which you can find here.

Audi F1 Team

After making its debut in F1 in 2026, Audi has launched its first student internship in its IT Department at Neuburg an der Donau, Germany.

It is expected to announce further internship programmes and graduate schemes in due course via its careers hub.

Early Motorsport Careers Beyond Formula 1

British Touring Car Championship (BTCC)

British Touring Car Championship teams do not publicly advertise work experience programmes, but squads such as Un-Limited Motorsport and Team Dynamics have been known to offer placements to those who reach out proactively.

IndyCar and IMSA

IndyCar and IMSA sportscar racing teams in the United States often rely on direct outreach to recruit interns and offer work experience placements.

Purdue University works with IndyCar teams to provide engineering students with placements.

North Carolina State University has a motorsport programme connected to IMSA teams such as Wayne Taylor Racing.

Honda Racing UK

Honda Racing UK offers apprenticeships to UK-based applicants with GCSEs: https://www.hondaapprenticeships.co.uk/how-to-apply/application-process/

It also offers placements from three to 12 months for students pursuing relevant engineering degrees.

Honda Racing UK provides hands-on experience in engine development and racing operations with Loughborough University and the University of Warwick.

World Endurance Championship

Cranfield University runs the Motorsport MSc program, which places students in Toyota Gazoo Racing, Peugeot Sport, and Porsche Hypercar WEC teams.

Porsche

Porsche is currently offering numerous different internships across its motorsports divisions, presenting a massive opportunity for students looking to break into WEC and GT racing. 

Jaguar TCS Racing

Jaguar TCS Racing is offering multiple 12-month student internships starting from September 2026 and ending in August 2027.

Motorsport Engineering & Supplier Companies

Brick Kiln Composites

Brick Kiln Composites offers a range of opportunities for those wishing to pursue a career in motorsport. This includes work experience, open to year 11 and year 12 students.

The company also runs an apprenticeship programme in partnership with Sheffield University, where applicants have the chance to become qualified Composite Technicians in 3 years.

Pirelli

Pirelli offers two-year internships for engineering and business graduates as part of its 'Warming Up' programme.

The tyre company also offers various internships and apprenticeships globally. Formula 1's tyre supplier also collaborates with University of Milan and Politecnico di Torino, offering engineering students exclusive placement opportunities.

Silverstone Composites

Specialising in designing and manufacturing carbon fibre parts, Silverstone Composites offer work experience placements targeted at students in the later years of full-time secondary, sixth form or college education. Six placements are available each year and typically take place during the summer holidays or half term.

Dallara

The Italian motorsport chassis constructor offers internships to work across its motorsport and resource departments.

Michelin

Michelin has committed to several work-linked training and internships internationally.

Governing Bodies & Event Organisations

Motorsport UK

Motorsport UK's Inclusion Hub is designed for individuals interested in entering the industry, as well as parents and teachers. With a focus on STEM careers, the hub provides a tailored list of resources, including internships and guides, after completing a brief questionnaire.

Silverstone

Silverstone offers a variety of volunteering opportunities at some of its events, including the British Grand Prix.

MSV Group

The MSV Group regularly promotes volunteering across its tracks, including Donington Park and Brands Hatch. You can check its website to find out which events are looking for volunteers.

Applications are now open for roles at its events held at Brands Hatch.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Goodwood offers volunteering roles at its major events over the year, including the Festival of Speed.
